Sarah Ann DEAKIN
(1873 - 1960)

Sarah Ann DEAKIN was the daughter of Samuel Pownall DEAKIN and Sarah Ann SIDEBOTTOM. Sarah was born in 1873, Wigan, Lancashire[1].

In the 1881 Census, Sarah is recorded as a 'Scholar', living at 13 Wignall Street, Wigan, with her mother, Sarah and her 7 brothers and sisters. In the 1891 Census, Sarah, aged 17, is recorded as living at 49 Corporation Street, Wigan, with her parents, brother and 4 sisters, occupation 'Jam Wrapper'.

Sarah married Robert ALSTEAD OBE (1873-1946)[2] in 1896 in Wigan[3] at Wigan Registry Office (or Registrar attended)[4]. Robert and Sarah had the following children[4]:

  1. Robert Farrington ALSTEAD, b. 1897, Pemberton, Lancashire[4], d. 1982
  2. George Deakin ALSTEAD, b. 1898, Pemberton[4], d. Nov 1988 (served with the Lancashire Fusiliers, appointed 2nd Lt. 26th June 1918).
  3. Charles Gordon ALSTEAD[*], b. 1902, Wigan[4], d. Jun 1987
  4. Donald Marsden ALSTEAD, b. 1903, Wigan[4], d.16 Dec 1959

Robert and Sarah (Deakin) Alstead

Sarah died in 1960 aged 86[5].

Robert ALSTEAD was MP for Altrincham, Cheshire from 6th December 1923 to 29th October 1924. Robert died at Gathurst, near Wigan, on 9 September 1946, aged 72[2].
