Emma SIDEBOTHAM (1832) & Thomas HALLIWELL (1827 - 1875)

Emma SIDEBOTHAM was the eldest daughter of William SIDEBOTHAM, a 'Cotton Spinner' and Sarah SWANTON. Emma was born in 1832 in Stockport, Cheshire and grew up with her family at 133 New Bridge Lane, Stockport.

Emma worked as 'Power Loom Weaver' in one of the Stockport mills before moving to Wigan, Lancashire.

Emma married Thomas HALLIWELL in 1860[1] at St Thomas's Church in Wigan.

Emma and Thomas had the following children:

  1. Hugh HALLIWELL, b. c1857, Wigan.
  2. Mary Ellen HALLIWELL, b. 1861, christened by Curate H.P. Marriott, at St Thomas', Pendleton, Lancashire on 8 December 1861.
  3. Thomas HALLIWELL[2], b. 1868, Wigan, christened by Curate A.H. Hodd on 25 Jan 1869 at St Catherine's, Wigan.

In April 1861, Emma (a 'Cotton Weaver' in one of Wigan's cotton mills), Thomas (a 'Labourer') and son Hugh were living at 7 Market Court, Wigan. Emma's sister Sarah Ann SIDEBOTHAM (a 'Cotton Weaver') was living with them. In December of that year Thomas was working as a 'Coaler'.

The family had moved to School Lane, Wigan, by 1869 and Thomas was working as a 'Quarryman' and later as a 'Coal Dealer'.

Thomas died in Wigan on 5 January 1875 and probate was granted on 28 Octber 1896, in Liverpool, to his wife Emma, 6 Byrom Street, Poolstock, Wigan, effects less than £100.
