Martha Pownall DEAKIN
(1848 - 1908)
Martha Pownall DEAKIN was the daughter of Robert DEAKIN and Martha POWNALL. Martha was born in 1848, Droylsden, Lancashire[1].
In the 1871 Census, Martha aged 22 years, occupation 'Milliner' is listed a living with her widowed mother Martha DEAKIN (née POWNALL) and her sisters Rachel ('Cotton Winder') and Mary ('Cotton Winder').
Martha married George Evan BANKS (born Chester, Cheshire in 1851) in Stockport, Cheshire in 1872[2].
In the 1881 Census George and Martha are recorded as living at 73 Churnet Street, Manchester. George is working as an 'Ironmonger' and Martha as a 'Dressmaker'.
By the 1891 Census, George (an 'Ironmonger's Assistant') and Martha ('Dressmaker') have moved to 1 Forest Street, in the north of Manchester. George, aged 46, died in Manchester in 1896[4].
At the time of the 1901 Census, Martha was staying with her sister Rachael's family at 42 Mitchell, Street, Pemberton, Lancashire.
Martha died, aged 59 years, in 1908 in Stockport, Cheshire[3].
