George DEAKIN
(1853 - 1932)

George DEAKIN was the youngest child and son of Robert DEAKIN and Rachel. George was born in 1853, Stockport, Cheshire.

George (a Hat Finisher[1] and latterly a Restaurant Keeper) married Elizabeth DAVIES (a Shop and Housekeeper[1] b. 1851, Stockport) in Stockport in 1875[2]. George and Elizabeth had the following children:

  1. Martha Elizabeth DEAKIN[3], b. 1875, Stockport, d. 1890 aged 14, Stockport
  2. Mary Hannah DEAKIN[4], b. 1878, Stockport, d. 1960, Colwyn Bay.
  3. George Arthur DEAKIN[5], b. 1881, Stockport
  4. Lucy Pownall DEAKIN[6], b. 1884, Stockport, d. 1974, Aled, Denbigshire, Wales.
  5. Sarah Beatrice DEAKIN[8], b. 1886, Stockport[7]
  6. Amelia Godward DEAKIN[9], b. 7 Sep 1889, Stockport, m. Evan HOWELL in 1921, d. 1974 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

In 1881 George and Elizabeth were living at 12 Hindley Street, Stockport[1] and later moved to 128 Grenville Street, Stockport.

Elizabeth died in Stockport on 28 November 1918, aged 66. Probate was granted on 11 January 1919 to her husband George, effects totalling £699.4s[10].

George later died in Stockport in 1932 at the age of 79 years.

Mary Hannah Deakin never married and died on 13 March 1960. At the time Mary was living at 7 Cynfran Road, Colwyn Bay, Denbighshire. In her will she left her effects totalling £2805 15s 6d to her sisters Lucy and Sarah.

Lucy Pownall Deakin served as a nurse, reaching the rank of Acting Sister with the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Reserve during the First World War and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Sarah Beatrice Deakin, was born on 26 January 1886. Sarah worked for her Aunt, Sarah Deakin, married John W. James (d. bef 1960) in Stockport, Cheshire, in 1923. She secondly married Edward J. Bowen in Llanelly in 1967 and died in 1972 in Liverpool.
